Athirappilly falls is the largest waterfalls in Kerala, south India. It is situated in Athirappilly Grama Panchayath in Chalakudy taluk of Thrissur district. This amazing water giant, which stands tall at 80 feet, lies on Chalakudy River which originates from Western Ghats,at the entrance to the sholayar forest region. A huge number of tourists come over here without on and off season barriers. So, the athirappilly road will always have heavy traffic due to abundance of tourists’ vehicles.
Bathing under the vast waterfalls is the main attraction of the tourists. At the top of the falls, tourists can swim, splash, dive and bath in the river's pool area.Comparatively it is much safer than vazhachal waterfalls. Besides, on the way to athirappilly, there are several tiny waterfalls like thumboormuzhi, Charpa and plenty of other sightseeing experiences. There are a number of hydro power projects of Kerala government located in this route like Peringalkuthu, Malakkapara and sholayar dams. It is 18 kilometres away from Chalakudy town (NH 544) in Thrissur district. Tourists arriving from Ernakulam have two options to reach Athirapilly waterfalls. One is to take deviation from Karukutty near Angamaly. The second choice is to take diversion from Chalakudy. The tourists travelling from Tamil Nadu can drive through Pollachi, Palani, Valparai, Malakkapara, Sholayar, Peringalkuthu via reach Athirapilly easily.
