Paithalmala

Paithalmala is a hill station located in the Kannur district of Kerala. It is a hill station settled at a distance of 65 km from Kannur town on the Kerala-Karnataka border at the height of 4500 ft above the sea level. To reach the top of the hill, one has to travel 6 km from the bottom of the valley. Tourists can enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire area covered with greenery like a blanket.


Part of the Sahyadri or the Western Ghats, this mountain is the highest peak in Kannur. The mountain range is spread over 500 acres. The hill station is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna furthermore offers breathtaking views of valleys and beautiful mountains. It is an adventurous drive to reach the peak, which attracts a lot of tourists.



What is the best time to visit Paithalmala? The answer is that you can visit Paithalmala throughout the year, regardless of the climatic conditions. However, most trekking facilities are available from June to October and from January to April.


The nearest railway station to Paithalmala is the Kannur Railway Station, which is 57 km away from Paithalmala. Trains from different parts of the country and regular trains from cities like Bangalore, Mangalore, and Chennai are available at Kannur station. Tourists visiting Paithalmala can easily reach the place by road. One is through Pottanplave and the other is by Kappimala. Many people prefer the first route because the path is not difficult to drive, and takes you to the forest gates. After that, you can go trekking. Now that Kannur Airport is well equipped, visitors from in and outside Kerala can avail of air travel.
