Pallippuram is a small village situated in the northern extreme end of the Vyppin peninsular island in Ernakulam district in Kerala, South India. The pallippuram fort was built in AD 1503 by the Portuguese. Locally, it is also known as ayakotta or alikkota. In AD 1661 the fort was captured by the Dutch army then it sold to Travancore in AD 1789.
This is the only existing fort constructed by European powers in Kerala. It is said to have a tunnel from pallippuram fort to Kottapuram fort across the Periyar River. But the archaeologists haven’t got a proof yet in this regarding. Among the remnants of the fort we've only seen a skeleton structure of the pallippuram fort. Even now the Archaeological department is carefully maintaining this fort for the sake of upcoming generations. Everyday there are a number of visitors who come here to see the oldness of the fort and learn its historical importance.
The church of Our Lady of snow, Munambam beach, Chinese fishing nets, Fishing harbor and Periyar estuary are the major sightseeing attractions nearby the Pallippuram fort. It is 30 km away from Ernakulam town, Kochi City.
